About

Hi there👋, I am Yixuan LI, currently a Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) at the University of Bristol, working on a research project funded by Prime Video, Amazon. Previously, I was a Research Fellow in the Department of Computer Science, City University of Hong Kong, where I completed my PhD degree in July 2025, and I was fortunate to be advised by Prof. Shiqi Wang. Before that, I was a visiting researcher of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in 2024 and I obtained my Bachelor's and Master's degree in 2018 and 2021, respectively. I also work closely with Prof. Weisi Lin and Prof. Anderson Rocha.

My research focuses on visual computing that prioritize human perception and trustworthiness, addressing challenges in both algorithm development and deployment in the open world. This involves simulating the characteristics of human visual system, coping with the ambiguity and subjectivity of human perception, and handling explainability therein. Currently, my emphasis is on building responsible foundation models such as large multimodal models and I am driven to investigate when they work or fail, adapt them to down-stream vision tasks, and ensure they serve real-world multimedia applications effectively. My general research interests lie in the intersection of:

I am always open to communication and collaboration with researchers in related fields. Feel free to reach out if you are interested or have any questions.

Misc

Outside of academia, I travel, yoga, scuba dive, and occasionally record them. This is my pictorial Life Memo.

Yoga 🧘

I have been a practising yogi for seven years. I love Ashtanga, Rocket Flow, Hatha and Universal Yoga, and I am drawn to healing retreats of every kind!

Scuba Diving 🤿

I am a technical sidemount diver, and I love diving in all kinds of waters, especially wrecks, coral reefs, walls, tunnels and caves. In 2027 I plan to complete my Decompression Procedures and Extended Range courses, and my goal is to swim through the Arch of the Blue Hole in Dahab (56m+) before 2028!

Podcast 🎙️

I also recently saw the release of a podcast I was invited to record with my friend Gabriella, a PhD student in social science. We talked about the academic path, how the AI industry is understood from the perspective of researchers, and how we think about the meaning of being human as individuals. This was my first time being on a podcast and I haven't actually listened to it myself yet – you are more than welcome to, but please don't feel the need to tell me if I sound terrible!
